Boat lurking in fogYesterday it was foggy all day. Which is just lovely as far as I'm concerned. On a few occasions, the sun struggled to break through the fog, sometimes even seen as a glowing spot in the sky. The most dramatic was near sunset, as it lowered behind the hills above Grand Marais amid drifting clouds. Soon after that, the sky was lit by a strange peachy glow. Naturally, we didn't have our cameras at that time. However, we soon grabbed them and headed to the breakwater. We happened across a boat tied up at the main harbor light that was obscured by the fog until we were right up close (shown to the right). This constituted the height of our excitement, apart from watching a movie and reading books. which is just how we wanted this vacation to be.

A Boat!So far today, we've gone out and had breakfast at The Pie Place. Crossed the street and played some mini-golf (I got only one over par, with a hole-in-one; Kerri kept up most of the way). Back to the room where we sat for a bit and looked out at the disturbingly calm lake. Not even waves against the shore, just a gentle rise and fall of water. Then a boat came along, of which Kerri was compelled to get a good picture, shown to the left.

Next up, ... no idea. And that's the way we likes it.

Ah, vacation. The Room Just had breakfast at the Blue Water Cafe. Skipped some rocks in the harbor; got a 12- and a 10-skip throw. On the way back, we were compelled to get half a dozen donuts from World's Best. Now, relaxing in the room looking out on the foggy lake.

The ride up was mostly rain; apparently we rode along a storm front, matching its pace as it traveled on our path. This did not prevent us from getting out at Gooseberry Falls, at least to go down and look at the closest falls.

Then, after getting to town and looking for someplace to eat, ran into Andrew and family. They came up with the notion of popping up to Grand Marais since it was rainy down by Gooseberry where they were staying for a few days (coincidentally timed vacations). We showed the nephews our room and then said our toodles as we weOut the Windowre still looking for supper. Ended up eating at Sven & Ole's, after discovering that the Wild Onion no longer serves dinner. Watched a movie later last night (Hurt Locker... curious movie) and then slept to the sound of crashing waves.

And now back to doing... whatever we want to. Perhaps later a stroll up to Artist's Point and just sit and read.

Questions all day, coding quiz page, gathering images, making Biathalon targets, going over details...

It's so close I can hear it, the Winter Games. Even though I believe it's all as ready as it can be, still feels like there's something left to do somewhere. Reviewing details, checking the site, fuss fuss fuss.

Last Wednesday at Blake fencing practice, two other former members of the UMFC showed up to help out. We three fenced and coached the kids; felt good to be in that role again. And to get exercise (just stopped feeling sore today, three days later). Watching the line of them as they practiced their lunges, I sought out over-extended knees, mis-timed thrusts after the start of the lunge, and a few other things. Only found a few that needed a small reminder about don't do this or watch out for that. Over all, I'm impressed with what Cliff and Missy are able to do with a bunch of high school kids.
